Sofia Vergara recently launched her Sofía Jeans collection for Walmart. The collection consists of jeans, denim jackets and skirts, t-shirts and tops. And this collection is designed to be accessible – all of the nearly 100 items in the collection are priced under $40 and the clothes come in a range of sizes to accommodate the myriad figures of women. The jeans are sized 0-20 and the tops come in sizes XS to XXXL.
Another interesting thing about the ad campaign for Sofia Jeans – the Modern Family actress used members of her own family in the first photo shoot. She describes how fitting this was to the nature of the fashion collection: “None of them are models or supermodels, they’re beautiful women of all sizes and ages, and it was great. It was great to see them enjoy and look great in those jeans”. Family members are also namesakes for the jeans. For example, the Melisa and Rosa jeans which were so named are shown here:

Social Media Launch of the Sofía Jeans collection
In an interview with InStyle, Vergara cited social media as one resource that influenced her latest collection.
“Nowadays, because of Instagram and Twitter, people are able to connect with their audiences and shoppers and hear what they want. Before, people didn’t have a voice, now they do and now we know that women that were bigger or women that were smaller were complaining that there wasn’t cute stuff for them. They could find basic stuff, but not more fun or fashionable pieces. It’s great that now we know that was missing, and now we can focus on giving them that.”
In fact Vergara used social media to tease the announcement of her denim line – (from her Instagram account)

What next?
Is this just the beginning for the business-savvy and versatile star? After all, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson, who are now lauded designers for their own fashion labels The Row and Elizabeth & James, got their start by launching a fashion line at Walmart in 2000. And Vergara has already had on affordable clothing line for Kmart from 2011-2015. When she ended her Kmart deal, the actress hinted at bigger, global ambitions in fashion.
